Why will this event be on a Thursday night?

The Hayward Chamber of Commerce is partner for this year’s event with a built-in demand of visitors. Holding it on Thursday gives the opportunity to expand outreach of the message of Juneteenth to a larger audience.

Why will this event be a part of the regular Hayward Street Festival?

Many cities of this size can only handle one festival a week due to staffing and the capacity of partner organizations. Juneteenth Hayward is always in a state of continuous improvement and looking for opportunities to partner with organizations with expertise in holding festivals in Hayward.

In what ways will Juneteenth be celebrated at this event?

The event will have black vendors, entertainment, and the history of Juneteenth displayed throughout the event. We always welcome new ideas to expand education and outreach regarding this holiday. Email juneteenthhayward@gmail.com if you are able to assist.

How will Black residents and Black voices be centered at this event?

The Juneteenth Hayward Committee includes NAACP Hayward South Alameda County, Black Women Organized for Political Action, The Best Me Conference, and other community members. We have also partnered with the West Coast Blues Society and promoted their Saturday event. Black entertainment, nonprofits, and vendors will be present on each day of Juneteenth Hayward events.

How do I become a vendor at this event?

Vendors can sign up here to participate. There will be a $275 for vendors and $150 for non-profit for the Thursday night event. These fees are standard for all Hayward Chamber of Commerce Street Parties in Hayward.

How do I reserve a table to share community resources at this event?

Community resources can sign up here to participate. There will be a $275 for vendors and $150 for non-profit for the Thursday night event. These fees are standard for all Hayward Chamber of Commerce Street Parties in Hayward. Limited hardship waivers may be available. However, fees are necessary to pay for the event's fees and operations.

How will this space be inclusive of youth and elders?

Hayward Area Recreation Department and Treasures Unleashed will be managing a Kid Zone for youth activities. There will also be booths available for youth and elders to learn more information about city and other community resources.

How is the City of Hayward investing in this event?

The city has granted funds for the Russell City Blues Festival and will have booths available at the event. There will also be staff to assist with the setup of the event.
